The Custard Factory has a new website in the shape of a blog www.custardfactory.com. The woad website got a mention under Ducks & Woad

To Do List

- Combination dyeing with woad, weld and madder

- Try different fibres (silk, bamboo, soya, flax, mohair, Black Diamond bamboo)

- Experiment with Sheep’s wool (different breeds and colours, fleece vs. yarn)

- Use ammonia as an alkali in place of soda ash

- Use fresh woad leaves in a liquidiser

- Make and couch woad balls

- Dye buttons

- Dye using boiled leaves with alum after & before extracting pigment for different pinks

- burnish folded woad-dyed cotton with mallet

- stitch resist on folded silk fabric

- fill jam jars carefully in woad vat and dip small portions of Dupion silk in jars to create blue circles

- circles of paste resist applied with chicken feather

- make a blue spiral against white background (draw spiral, lay string over it, sew under string, bunch spiral, dip only spiral) Not sure whether it will work!

- gilt over woad dyed fabric

- a resist that produces alternate stripes of woad blue and madder red

- try ‘shindori’ (making wrinkles by hand over a wine bottle whilst winding cloth)

- wind yarn over foam polystyrene balls, dye and unwind

- make prints of woad vat scum on handmade paper
